My name is Allison, and I was an au pair. I remember stepping into my host family’s home, suitcase in hand, heart full of excitement (and absolutely terrified of saying the wrong thing). The language didn’t really feel like a wall between me and everything I wanted to experience. I smiled a lot. Tried to speak as correctly as possible. But the truth is I spent too many evenings in my room, wondering if I said the right thing or was it correct, am I taken seriously ? That experience changed everything for me. It showed me how much language matters. Not just for getting by, but for truly belonging and feeling good about yourself.
Allison French and english teacher for au pairs. Professeur d’anglais et de français pour au pairs
I became a language teacher because I love learning about new cultures and languages but also I love sharing about mine. I also love making people confortable and showing them that traveling and speaking the language shouldn’t be a source of stress. In fact, learning a language isn’t just about grammar rules and vocabulary lists. Rather, it’s about ordering your coffee without panic. Similarly, it’s about making your host family laugh with a joke you told. Ultimately, it’s about feeling at home in a country that isn’t yours yet. That’s why, at Au Pair Bilingue, every lesson is built around your real life. Your host family. Your daily routines. The situations that actually happen to you.
It is also something I like to practice in my english classes. I like to put some of my teen student’s interests in my lessons or workshop as I like to call it: music, games, conversation, etc.
